The First Snow, by Peter Sinner
English translation by Samuel Sinner

The Winter's white snow swirls,
and visits the earth today for the first time,
The flakes stray wildly
finding no rest.

The children stand at windows
rejoicing merrily with loud voices.
The people scurry like ghosts,
up and down the street.

In an instant the roofs, streets and squares
are covered with delicate white blossoms;
The Lady of the Underworld softly strews her riches
before open windows.

Joyfully and merrily the Earth
takes to herself the soft winter blanket,
The window panes become so colorful,
amusing my pensive mind.
